On 18 September 1943, Soviet troops entered the Zaudai villages of the Pyriatyn district, and by 23:00, Soviet troops stormed Pyriatyn. The very next day (19 September), Bolshevik rule was restored in the remaining settlements of the district. On 19 September 1943, the 309th and 237th rifle divisions of the Red Army under Major General D. F. Dremin and Colonel P. M. Marol, who distinguished themselves during the "liberation of Pyriatyn from the German invaders", were awarded the honorary title of "Pyriatyn" by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the USSR.
