AS OBJECTS OF PUBLIC MEMORIALIZATION
FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF UKRAINE
Summary
The project assumes the systematic digitization, archiving, and applied scientific research of the preservation state and historiographical information of Ukrainian monuments, including those that have suffered or may suffer due to military operations or occupation, on the territory under the control of the Ukrainian government. We plan to develop a methodology with its usage for the creation of an all-Ukrainian database of monuments on a bilingual web-site. The scientific contribution involves analysis, conclusions, and recommendations regarding the preservation of individual objects and attention to the historical, political, national, social, and gender narratives of Ukrainian identity. Collected visual (photo) and historiographical (textual) information will provide an opportunity for quick access of Ukrainian and international institutions to the database with the purpose of protection, conservation, and restoration of objects; the creation of a comprehensive database regarding the passport of Ukrainian monuments; statistical analysis and determination of the level of preservation of monuments reflecting the development of Ukrainian statehood over the centuries.
Objective
The development of a methodology for the collection of attributive information, description, analysis, systematization, and interdisciplinary interpretation of data regarding the physical condition and socio-political indicators of monuments and memorials, including those that suffered as a result of military operations or occupation, through their digital archiving with subsequent representation on a bilingual web-site to ensure the society’s sustainable development and increase Ukraine’s competitiveness in the world.
Main Tasks
1. The development of a digital record card of monuments (individual or ensembles), displaying indicators of physical condition, attributive data, and socio-political narratives.
2. The creation of a digital archive of monuments (individual or ensembles) located on the territory under the control of the Ukrainian government, in Ukrainian and English languages, with access to visual information.
3. The analysis of social, gender, national, and patriotic components of monuments reflecting the Ukrainian national identity, as well as the formulation of recommendations regarding the priority of conservation, restoration, museification, or dismantling of monumental objects.
4. The formulation of methodological recommendations for forming Ukrainian social and political narratives, embodied in memorialization monuments, taking into account the conditions and specific factors of Ukrainian historical development and consistent with the principles of national, state, and people’s sovereignty of Ukraine.
