The Kapnist estate in Velyka Obukhivka became one of the centres of enlightenment in Ukraine. Hryhorii Derzhavin, Mykola Gogol, and Mykola Hnedych came here. In the early 20s of the XIX century, the Decembrists gathered here: Muravyov-Apostol, Bestuzhev-Ryumin, Pestel and others. There was a home theatre in Obukhivka. Among the plays was the comedy "Yabeda". The roles in it were played, among others, by Mykola Hohol's parents. In 1958, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the writer's birth, a granite stele was erected on the site of the Kapnist house, and a memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of the House of Culture. The graves of Vasyl Kapnist and his father Vasyl Petrovych are preserved in the park. It was reconstructed in 1958. The monument of history
