The ceremonial opening of one of the bright works of the famous Ukrainian sculptor I.P. Kavaleridze - a monument to Hryhorii Skovoroda in Lokhvytsia was built on December 22, 1922. It was timed to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the thinker, a native of this part of Poltava Oblast. Kavaleridze worked with cement - he managed to create a complete illusion of stone. At that time, the pedestal was well connected with the surrounding buildings - the museum, the library and the city theater.
To the 250th anniversary of the birth of Hryhoriy Skovoroda (1972), the monument in Lokhvytsia, now in bronze, was restored and inaugurated on November 29.
