The monument was erected in honor of the soldiers from the same village who died during the Second World War. In 1941, while breaking out of the encirclement that the troops of the Southwestern Front found themselves in as a result of the Battle of Kyiv, a small group of soldiers, including General Trutko, came across a German patrol near the village of Bodakva. During the firefight, the general was wounded. Local residents picked up the general, but they failed to save him. The general, along with other soldiers, was buried in a mass grave in Bodakva.
