At the beginning of 1942, professor P.M. Buiko led the training of partisan groups in Tomashivka, and collected weapons. On October 13, 1943, during assistance to partisans in the village of Yaroshivka, P.M. Buiko was captured by the fascists. The partisan professor was doused with gasoline and burned in his house above the Irpin River. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated August 7, 1944, P.M. Buiko was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
