Here, from July 3 to 6, 1942, S. Kovpak's partisan unit fought the Nazi invaders. At the end of June 1942, the Putivl partisan unit, which was part of the partisan unit S. Kovpak's unit and the headquarters of the partisan unit were located in the Novoslobodsky forest. From July 1942, the Nazis occupied the villages that were located around the forest. The Putivl partisan unit found itself in a dense ring of enemy encirclement. For three days, the partisans repelled the enemy's attack. On July 6, 1942, with the help of partisans from the Kopka army, who struck from the rear, the enemy ring was broken through and the partisans left environment. The fascists lost about 300 soldiers and officers killed during the battle. In 1967, a reinforced concrete stele with a memorial inscription on its front side was installed at the site of the battle.
