Here, on September 8, 1941, the first battle of the artillery cadets of the special purpose unit of the Kharkiv Military District, which was part of the 40th Army, took place, with the 65th and 168th infantry divisions of the enemy, when the Nazi troops sought to force the Kleven River to take possession of Putivl. In this battle, the artillery division of Major Kiselyov supported the actions of the infantry. Captain Filimonov's battery was especially distinguished. The cadets together with the infantry thwarted the enemy's attempt to force the river. On May 7, 1981, a 76-mm gun was installed on a monolithic reinforced concrete block in the city of the first battle of artillery cadets. On the front side of the block is a bas-relief image of battle episodes.
