Panteleimon Oleksandrovych Kulish (27.07.1819 (08.08.1819), Voronezh - 2 (14.01.1897, Motronivka village, now Chernihiv region)) - Ukrainian writer, historian, folklorist, ethnographer, translator. The works of P. Kulish are a significant contribution to Ukrainian literature. In his work, he evolved from conservative romanticism to ethnographic realism. Even in the first years after the Russian October Revolution of 1917, the school in Voronezh bore the name of P. Kulish. But soon his name was included in the list of "bourgeois-nationalist writers" and was erased from the history of Ukrainian literature. At the time when Ukraine gained its statehood, the good name of this outstanding person was returned to the people.
In 1989, in honor of the compatriot, to mark the 170th anniversary of his birth, a granite slab with a portrait (bas-relief) of P. Kulish was installed on a concrete pedestal.
