Here, on August 9, 1943, the senior sergeant, deputy platoon commander of the 764th Rifle Regiment, O. Kalinin (1922 - 43), in the battle during the breakthrough of the defenses of the German-fascist troops in the area of the village of Volkov on August 9, 1943, covered the embrasure of the gun with his body, for which he posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. In 1983, a commemorative sign was erected at the place of the defense breakthrough and the feat of O. Kalinin, in front of the sign - a plaque with an inscription.
