Since August 1942, O.O. Holovachev commanded the 52nd motorized rifle brigade. He took part in battles during the crossing of the Don, the reconquest of Ukraine, and the battle for the Dnipro. He died in the battle on March 6, 1945 (was killed by a fragment of an enemy shell) in Silesia in the Logan area (Poland). Holovachev was awarded the Order of Lenin, three orders of the Red Banner, two orders of Suvorov of the 2nd degree, the order of the Red Star, and medals.
