The modern monument to Kobzar was opened in 1964, on the 150th anniversary of Shevchenko's birthday, on the site of the destroyed Trinity Church. In 2009, the monument was restored, in particular, the cladding on the pedestal was replaced. In 2013, as part of the reconstruction of Taras Shevchenko Square, the monument was also completely reconstructed. The rectangular pedestal was replaced by a pedestal in the form of a truncated pyramid, to the base of which small granite steps lead. A quote from the poem "Prayer" was placed on the updated monument.
