The Monument-Museum was opened in November 1958 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv from the German invaders. The monumental architectural composition, which was built on a high mound, is a high pedestal in the form of an anti-tank grenade, crowned with a sculpture of a warrior-liberator, representing the victorious offensive of the Soviet troops. Under his feet is a fascist swastika, German military standards. The portal is decorated with an image of a sword covered in glory with the date of the liberation of Kyiv, emblems of the military branches and services that participated in the battles for the liberation of the capital of Ukraine. All units that distinguished themselves in battles and received the honorary name "Kyiv", as well as awarded orders for the liberation of Kyiv, are engraved on marble pylons inside the Monument-Museum.
