Junior Lieutenant Marchenko was mortally wounded in battle on April 17, 1945, 34 km west of Frankfurt. Buried in Markswalde. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded posthumously on May 15, 1946. In the hero's homeland, a school bears his name. Monument of monumental art
