The temple-monument was built to commemorate the feat of the fallen officers and soldiers who participated in the First World War. The church-monument at the Bratske cemetery survived the huge explosion of ammunition at Zvirynets in 1918. It was not demolished even during the total destruction of churches: the Soviet authorities wanted to set up a crematorium in the church before World War II, but the war prevented them from doing so. In the 1950s, the city executive committee transferred the church building and the adjacent 2.5 hectares (the territory of the Bratske military cemetery) to the Institute of Metal Ceramics and Special Alloys of the Ukrainian SSR. Several special laboratories were opened there, along with some extensions. Later, the church building became the base of the Institute of Strength of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Some of the cemetery terraces can still be seen today.
