The Memorial Complex in Memory of Ukrainian Soldiers Fallen in Afghanistan, or Monument to Afghan Warriors, is located in the park between the Kyiv Cave Monastery and the National Museum of Ukraine's Participation in World War II. The monument to Afghan warriors is located opposite the entrance to the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, popularly called the Afghan Church (in the early 1990s, mothers of soldiers killed in Afghanistan took an active part in its revival). On December 3, 1994, at the initiative of the Ukrainian Union of Veterans of the War in Afghanistan, it was inaugurated. To mark the 10th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, the monument was reconstructed, as a result of which it became part of the Memorial Complex in memory of Ukrainian soldiers who died in Afghanistan, which was opened on February 15, 1999. The sculptural part of the memorial is made without unnecessary pomp, but with a noticeable depth of feeling. It consists of three figures of soldiers - two are depicted in full growth, and in front of them the third warrior is sitting on the ground with his head bowed. At the foot of the statue, bronze "black tulips" sprouted through the stones, symbolizing the Afghan misfortune.
