A full-length bronze figure of Grigory Skovoroda is placed on a low black granite pedestal. The philosopher is depicted as a traveler who came to Kyiv from afar and looks reverently at his alma mater. His figure is slender and ascetic, in a long scroll, with a canvas traveling bag pressed to his chest with his right hand. According to the first project proposed by Kavaleridze, Skovoroda was barefoot, with a Bible under his arm and a cross around his neck. But this option was rejected by the party leadership. Therefore, they decided to remove the body cross, the Bible in their hands was replaced with a bag, and they put sandals on their feet. The monument was opened on March 1, 1977 on the then Red Square.
