On 25 September 1941, the 3rd Battalion of the 4th Guards Mortar Regiment fired the first full volley of BM-13 Katyusha in Ukraine. The regiment commander was Major Nesterenko O. I. The division commander was Captain Khudyak P. M.

The occupiers first appreciated the formidable power of the Katyusha in Poltava region on 25 September 1941 near the famous Dykanka. A memorial sign with an inscription has now been erected at the site.
