Panas Myrnyi (Panas Yakovych Rudchenko) (1849-1920) is a classic of Ukrainian literature, a revolutionary democrat. He was born in Myrhorod, Poltava Oblast. He lived in Poltava for 49 years, worked in financial work and took an active part in literary and public life. Panas Myrnyi died on January 28, 1920. He was first buried at the military cemetery next to his son, and in 1936 he was reburied in the writer's favorite place called Zeleny Gayi. In 1949, for the 100th anniversary of his birth, an obelisk was erected on the writer's grave.
