As a fairy tale writer, Hrebinka ranks first in our literature. His fables are characterized by a bright national Ukrainian flavor, healthy humor, and an equally healthy social and liberal tendency. He followed the path laid out in Russian literature by Krylov, but he walked quite independently, not imitating Krylov, bringing the Ukrainian landscape and worldview of a Ukrainian peasant into his fables (Ivan Franko).
