At this place on October 1-2, 1941, Soviet troops as part of the 2nd Guards Cavalry Corps (commander - Lieutenant General O. Belov), the 1st Guards Moscow Motorized Rifle Division (commander - Colonel O. Lizyukov) and the 1st Tank Brigade (commander - Colonel O. Khasin) launched a counterattack against the troops of the German-Nazi invaders. 20 settlements were liberated, including Shtepivka. The counterattack was carried out in the conditions of the retreat of the Soviet troops and therefore had great moral and political significance. It was a great victory. The plan of the Nazis to reach the Kursk - Orel highway before the autumn rains and secure a reliable supply route - the Bryansk - Orel railway - was thwarted. In 1966, a T-34 tank with a memorial inscription on the front side of the pedestal was installed at the site of the battle.
