Mykola Lysenko (March 10 (22), 1842, Hrynky - October 24 (November 6), 1912, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, conductor, teacher, collector of song folklore, and public figure.
He was born in the village of Hrynky, Kremenchuk district, Poltava province (now Kremenchuk district, Poltava region, Ukraine) in the family of a nobleman, Vitalii Romanovych Lysenko, a colonel (of the Order of the Kirasyr Regiment). This village belonged to Mykola Buliubash, his mother's uncle. His father was a highly educated man who spoke Ukrainian at home.
