In July 2023, Kyiv City Council members approved a list of objects to be removed from the capital's public space. The list includes monuments, memorials, or decorative elements related to the communist regime, history, and culture of the USSR and Russia, which contain Soviet narratives and inaccurate historical information. In particular, the list includes a monument to Nikolai Shchors. The Ministry of Culture initiated the removal of the monument to Shchors and other Russian figures from the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Cultural Heritage. On December 9, 2023, the monument to Mykola Shchors was dismantled.
