The Soviet-Japanese conflict on Halkhin Gol began on May 11, 1939. At that time, the Red Army had 30 infantry and mechanized divisions, 5-7 cavalry divisions, 6-8 tank brigades, and at least 24 aviation brigades. The Red Army (in the Far East, Transbaikalia, and Mongolia) had 4,716 tanks, 5,748 artillery pieces, and 2,623 aircraft. The group's personnel ranged from 450 to 570 thousand people.
