The arch in Novgorod-Siversky was built in 1786. It was then that it became known that a year later a visit to the city of Empress Catherine II was planned. The local community was going to erect a wooden Triumphal Gate in honor of her arrival. The construction was carried out at the expense of benefactors, and there was enough money to build a stone arch. In 1787, Catherine II visited the city. The entrance took place through the Arc de Triomphe. The Empress was pleased with such attention. After that, she decided to provide money for the restoration of the local Transfiguration Cathedral. During the Second World War, the arch was damaged, so it was necessary to carry out work on its reconstruction.
