He was brought up in the gymnasium of higher sciences of Prince Bezborodko from 1821 to 1828. Died in Moscow on 21 February 1852. Buried in Moscow's Danilov Monastery

The monument was erected at public expense. The initiators of the monument were former graduates of the Bezborodko Lyceum, teachers and students of the Nizhyn Historical and Philological Institute, and the leading citizens of Nizhyn. In 1880, a committee was set up to raise funds for the monument. A total of 8,905 rubles was raised.
