The author of the sculpture successfully conveyed in inanimate material the strong-willed nature of the poetess, who does not obey the circumstances of fate, her mental strength, and at the same time tenderness and femininity. The monument is surrounded by specially planted trees brought from the homeland of the poetess. This monument was not the first monument to the poetess in the Ukrainian capital, because as early as 1965, a park sculpture of Lesya Ukrainka was installed in the City Garden opposite the Mariinsky Palace by the sculptor V. Z. Borodai and the architect A. F. Ignashchenko. Since the park sculpture did not correspond to the idea of commemorating the greatness of the poetess, it was decided to erect a larger monument in a more crowded place. Therefore, on September 3, 1973, a monument to Lesya Ukrainka was solemnly opened on the square of the same name, which has been the main place of commemoration of the poetess in Kyiv ever since.
