The Memorial of Glory was solemnly opened on May 9, 1985 in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Victory of the USSR over Nazi Germany in the Second World War. It combines the memory of the victims of the Second World War with the figurative expression of the name of the city.
However, the Memorial became the object of vandalism: the original openwork metal rosette on the torch of the "Eternal Flame" and some details of decoration (granite slabs) were stolen. Damaged horn lanterns on poles (one lantern is missing). All lamps and plantings of red roses on the Walk of Fame were also destroyed.
