During the liberation war of 1648–1654, Shrubky was used as a supply base by the troops of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. Omelyan Kupchenko was the Hetman's train at that time. The army of Maxim Kryvonos was also camped here. When he left from here in the direction of Starokostyantynov, Yarema Vyshnevetsky attacked Shrubki and destroyed the entire convoy. So then, on the territory of the village, Colonel Omelyan Kupchenko died. He was buried in a field and a stone cross was erected.
