The monument was erected in the city center in 1998 and is considered the only monument in Ukraine dedicated to the victims of political repression. A sad angel with half-bent wings looking down is carved from granite and bronze. The place for the memorial was not chosen by chance, because in 1910-1911 Proskuriv merchant Yankel Berland built here one of the most luxurious houses of that time, the fate of which was radically changed by the Soviet Union. This house can be seen on the mural near the "Angel of Sorrows".
Every year, here, near the Angel of Sorrows, on the day of commemoration of the victims of repression and famine, thousands of Podolians gather, bring flowers, light memorial candles - so as not to forget the mercilessly difficult history of ours, to remember all those killed, whose lives became a symbol of the indestructibility of the human spirit.
