The monument to Taras Shevchenko in Khmelnytskyi is a one-piece monument about 5 meters high, carved from four connected granite blocks, standing on a small rise covered with grass - the monumental image of Shevchenko seems to "grow" from the stone block. In this way, an analogy was drawn between the strength of stones and the steadfastness of Kobzar's spirit. The history of the creation of the Khmelnytskyi monument to Shevchenko began in March 1991, when in the Park named after A memorial stone was laid for M. Kotsyubynskyi (now named Shevchenko). Despite a number of protests from Khmelnytskyites - representatives of the intelligentsia and the public, regarding the not attractive enough embodiment of the artistic image of the Great poet, as well as the unfortunate location of the monument, it was inaugurated on December 19, 1992. Nowadays, the place near the monument is traditional for gatherings of the intelligentsia and representatives of the authorities during the annual Shevchenko dates. Despite the small size of the site, rallies, other cultural and political events are also held here.
