The burial site of civilian victims of fascism in 1941-1943 in the village of Khashchuvate, Haivoron district, Kirovohrad region, is a monument of local cultural heritage. This is a memorial complex called the Khashchuvate Tragedy, the largest monument to Holocaust victims in Europe. It was unveiled at the site of the shooting of Jewish civilians during World War II. Mass expulsions of Jews in Khashchuvate began in the fall of 1941 during the Nazi occupation. Between February 16 and 20, 1942, more than 1,000 Jewish civilians were murdered. The Jewish town, which had existed for several centuries, was completely destroyed in a few days. After the war ended, a modest clay memorial was erected at the site of the tragedy. And in 2013, they began to build a memorial complex made of local rocks: Hai Voronskyi granite and Zavalivka graphite. The memorial was created with donations from citizens. On May 9, 2014, the memorial was unveiled.
