On October 9, 1942, about 800 Jews from the ghetto, as well as from nearby Torgovytsa, were shot on the outskirts of the village of Ostrozhets. The killed were buried in pits near the Jewish cemetery. After the war, nothing reminded of the victims. In 2013, with the efforts of the German-Ukrainian project "Protect Memory" and the funds of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, the history of the Holocaust in Ostrozhka was researched, and at the site of the shooting, work began on arranging mass burials and the former Jewish cemetery as a memorial site.Damage caused by soil erosion and looting of graves did not make it possible to establish the exact boundaries of the mass graves. In the end, 3,800 square meters were surrounded by a wooden fence, the territory of the memorial was ordered and strengthened. The newly constructed memorial was officially opened on July 2, 2015. The information board tells about the history of the Jewish community and its murder. The simplicity of the memorial seems to emphasize the incomprehensibility of the crime that took place at this place.
