Diesel-electric submarine of the X series of the Sh project ("Pike"). She was laid down at factory No. 200 "In the name of 61 Communards" in Mykolaiv on November 18, 1934. Factory number 1036. She was launched on December 28, 1936, and on October 31, 1938 she joined the Black Sea Fleet.
On December 12, 1942, the submarine went to the Cape Olynka-Portytske estuary area. This was the last news about the Sh-212, it was no longer contacted, it did not return to the base. For a long time it was believed that the boat was sunk by enemy aircraft north of Cape Sinop on December 19, 1942 while returning to the base. In 1974, a diving club from Mykolaiv discovered a submarine near Zmiiny Island.Based on the damage, it was concluded that the boat blew up on a large anchor mine. Divers were advised not to dive to this object, and the boat was identified as Sh-208. In 2003, the boat was inspected by scuba divers from the Poseidon club in Odessa. According to their description, the bow part of the boat, lying at a small distance, was torn off, the cockpit was damaged by an explosion, and the hatches were open. In 2006, the magazine "Octopus" organized an expedition that discovered the "Catfish" net-breaker in the bow. He could only be on Sh-212. During its service, the submarine made 8 trips, 3 of them to Sevastopol, the 9th ended with the death of the ship and 42 members of its crew. During the entire time, the boat did not fire a single torpedo. Now she is at the bottom as a monument to herself and a mass grave for her crew. Coordinates 45 ° 10'N 30 ° 08'E.
