Monument of monumental art Order dated 20.06.2008 No. 728/0/16-08 For many years, there have been discussions in the scientific and political circles of Russia and the USSR about the first "inventor" of radio. Usually, two names are mentioned - the Italian inventor and Nobel laureate Guglielmo Marconi and the Russian professor Oleksandr Popov. Unlike Marconi, O. Popov did not apply for a patent. It is not known why, or there was no subject of the invention, because O. Popov used the scheme of the receiver of O. Lodge almost without changes, or he did not consider it necessary to do this, because O. Popov planned to use a "thunder detector" for training in a mine classroom. The monument remains in the State Register of Immovable Monuments, but its name has been changed - "Monument to physicist O. Popov".
