Monument of monumental art
150006-N.
Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated September 3, 2009 No. 928.
The monument consists of a pedestal, a bronze statue, and three bas-reliefs depicting the Battle of Craon, the capture of Varna, and agriculture and trade, which flourished under Vorontsov's patronage. The inscription on the monument should have read: "Compatriots are grateful to His Highness Prince Mykhailo Semenovich Vorontsov. 1863". But today on the front side of the pedestal there is a laconic inscription: Vorontsov. The height of the bronze figure is 3.2 m. The total height of the monument is over 8 meters. Vorontsov's appearance, looking at the massiveness of the statue, has a striking resemblance to the late prince due to the fact that the sculptor used the last portrait made by the Berlin master of portrait painting Franz Kruger
On November 7, 2023, the historical and toponymic commission of the Odessa City Council decided not to demolish the monument to Vorontsov, citing the statue's exceptional artistic value.
On November 10, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine excluded the monument on Odessa's Cathedral Square from the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Cultural Heritage of National Importance.
