The column was erected in honor of the victory over the Tatar detachment that besieged the castle, and in memory of the khan who died then and is buried here. It actually happened on the day of St. Mark. Among the landmarks of local importance, the column of St. Mark is listed as a "roadside monument - a tower", built in the 1670s.
