The chapel was established in the 17th century by order of the King of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Jan III Sobieski in honor of the victory of the united forces of the Ukrainian Cossacks led by Hetman Peter Sahaydachny and the troops of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth over the army of the Ottoman Empire in the Battle of Khotyn in 1621.
