Lychakivskyi cemetery is one of the oldest in Europe and was founded in 1786. This is a huge burial place where approximately 400,000 people are buried on an area of 40 hectares. The name of the cemetery comes from the name of the Lychaky settlement, which belonged to the Lütz family. The oldest tombstone at the Lychakiv cemetery dates back to 1675. The first burials were carried out on the territory of modern fields 6, 7, 9, 10, 14. The modern territory of the cemetery is divided into 86 fields and contains more than 5 thousand tombs, about 80 thousand monuments and 23 family chapels. In 1991, the Lychakiv cemetery received the status of a museum.
