The tombstone belongs to the widespread group of monuments of the “cross” type. An eclectic amalgamation of traditions, a kind of synthesis of burial design techniques ranging from antiquity to classicism, in the spirit of illustrative and symbolic summarization of stories from the Gospel. The three-part composition of the monument consists of a stepped foundation with a wide plinth and a rectangular stylobate; a thematical pedestal depicting Mount Calvary; a large cross with a crossbar crowning the composition. The books depicted on the front side, symmetrically located on both sides of the board with the epitaph, symbolize the writer and teacher. In 1946, another tombstone made of labradorite was installed, on which P. Tychyna’s poetic lines were engraved in an ornamental gilded frame with vignettes.
