The Prince's well in the village of Krylos, Ivano-Frankivsk region, on the northwestern slope of the Krylos Highlands, at a distance of several hundred meters from the baby and the foundations of the Assumption Cathedral, has been known since the 12th century. From here there is a pedestrian route that leads past another natural monument, the Franciscan springs, and leads to museums of folk architecture and nature.
The water in the Prince's well has healing properties, because, according to folk tales, it gave strength to ancient Russian warriors, protected them from swords and enemy arrows, and also filled them with spiritual energy, which contributed to confidence in victory. An interesting legend about a magician and an unknown prince, who in ancient times was the owner of these lands, is connected with its origin. Once upon a time, during the long siege of Halych, water dried up in two large wells in this city. As a result, thirsty people had no opportunity to fight the enemies. Then the prince asked the magician for help. The sage did not answer immediately, asked for time to think, and then led the prince to the mountainside and ordered him to carefully examine the place where the last rays of the sun would fall. The prince listened to the magician and saw that the rays fell into a small depression. At the same time, he took out his sword and stuck it into the ground, from where the spring struck. In this way, the soldiers were saved from thirst, and the enemies were forced to retreat. Later, the prince ordered to clear this source and cover it with a stone. Since then, it has been called the Prince's Well.
In 1998, on the eve of the 1100th anniversary of Ancient Halych, the Prince's Well was renovated by Lviv restorers, who installed a four-meter rotunda over the spring and crowned it with a copper bathhouse with a gilded cross. In the same year, on Vodokhreshcha, the well was consecrated by priests of the UGCC. Today, an observation deck has been built near it.
