Markiyan Shashkevych is a poet, folklorist, initiator of the national revival of Galicia. Shashkevych's remains were moved to Lviv to the Lychakiv cemetery only in 1893, on the initiative of "Prosvit" and with the mass participation of the population of Galicia. A year ago, a monument to the work of the Munich sculptor Rudolf Thiele was unveiled at the grave. A sculpture of a weeping woman was installed at the burial place as a symbol of Galicia, which longs for her son who died prematurely. It is made of black wood and covered with a thin layer of copper.
