Ivan Yakovych Franko is an outstanding Ukrainian poet, novelist, playwright, literary critic, publicist, translator, scientist, public and political figure. Doctor of Philosophy (1893), active member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (1899), honorary doctor of Kharkiv University (1906). Member of the branch of "Prosvita" Society. In 1916, I. Franko was buried at the Lychakiv cemetery in someone else's tomb. It was temporary, and on May 28, 1921, his ashes were reburied in a permanent place at the beginning of the 4th field. The monument on his grave was opened on May 29, 1933.
