At this place, on December 2, 1941, the German invaders shot 10 communist hostages from Lebedin. Lebedyn was occupied by the Germans on October 11, 1941, and the German occupation authorities were organized almost a month later. The victims of the occupiers were 440 civilians who were shot, hanged, tortured, and died from aerial bombs and artillery fire. The reason for the first mass execution was that on November 30, 1941, a resident of the city, I. Kulish, hit a German officer on the head with a brick. However, no one knew who actually committed the attack. On December 1, 1941, 11 communists who remained in the city for one reason or another were arrested at their homes. On December 2, 50 German machine gun soldiers took 10 hostages outside the city and shot them. In 1970, a sculptural composition was installed at the site of the execution, which included a brick-cemented pylon topped with a five-pointed star and a stele. On the front part of the stele - a cast-iron board with a memorial inscription.
