According to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, a monument to the twice Hero of the Soviet Union I. Cherniakhovsky was erected in the city of Uman. The bronze bust was made by the workshop of the Palace of Soviets based on a sculpture by E. Vuchetych, who was awarded the Stalin Prize for this work in 1946.The granite pedestal was commissioned to be made by the workers of the Starobabansky Granite quarry. For the granite columns, quarry workers F. Bondarenko, A. Horban, D. Babiy, and V. Shulyak extracted the middle part of a large block and carefully selected stones of the same shade. The grinding work was done by stonemasons A. Novosad, V. Besarab, and O. Sukhomud. Grinder M. Danylchenko put his talent and skill into the work to give each detail a geometrically correct shape, to prevent the slightest deviation from the project. The skillful hands of polishers D. Bashuk and D. Kozina completed the production of the columns, giving a mirror-like and glossy shine to their surface. The monument was unveiled in a solemn atmosphere on October 24, 1948. In Soviet times, celebrations were held near the monument, where 3rd graders were accepted into the ranks of the All-Union Pioneer Organization. In the 1990s, vandals tore bronze orders off the column and stole garlands from the fence around the monument. At the initiative of the city executive committee, in 2003 the monument was restored, the garlands were restored and made, and the surrounding area was landscaped.
