The grave of Taras Shevchenko is the burial place of the famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko in the city of Kaniv (Cherkasy region) on Chernechaya Mountain, over which a bronze monument by the sculptor Matvyi Manizer has been standing since 1939.At first, the grave had the appearance of a Cossack-style mound, built by local residents and peasants from neighboring villages on the initiative of H. Cestakhivskyi. They were stripped and an oak cross was installed, which stood until the fall of 1882. In 1867-68, under the leadership of V. Shevchenko, works were carried out on the improvement of the grave, which took on the appearance of a two-tiered, stone-lined grave. In July 1884, with the funds of V. Tarnovsky Jr. and the funds collected by the Old Community, instead of a wooden cross, a cast-iron monument-cross was erected (height more than six meters, weight more than 250 poods) and a house was built, in one half of which the watchman lived I. Yadlovsky, and in the second Shevchenko's first folk museum was organized - Tarasova Svetlytsa. In April 1923, the Kaniv District Congress of the Committees of Poor Peasants decided to file a petition before the central authorities to replace the cross, which had stood on Shevchenko's grave for 39 years, with a bust. The new monument was opened on July 1, 1923.
