On August 8, 1943, units of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front captured Art. Currant and cut the railway connecting the Oryol and Belgorod-Kharkiv groups of the enemy. The 368th tank battalion of the 183rd tank brigade of the 10th tank corps distinguished itself in the battles for the city. The first to enter the city was the company of Senior Lieutenant S. Grishin, who died in an unequal battle. The commander of the tank company Art. lieutenant F. Sharypov, commander of the tank battalion, captain I. Shukhlyaev, radio operator of the T-34 tank. Sergeant S. Popov, tank mechanic-driver of St. Sergeant N. Kazantsev. In 1983, in honor of the liberating soldiers of the 40th Army, a T-34 battle tank was installed on a rubble stone pedestal. On its front side is a marble board with a memorial inscription.
