Volodymyr Petrovych Kuts (1927, Oleksyne village, Trostyanets district, Sumy region - 1975) - an outstanding athlete-athlete, multiple champion of the USSR in running five and ten thousand meters (1953 - 1957), honored master of sports of the USSR (1954), European champion (1954), champion of the Olympic Games in Melbourne (1956), knight of the Order of Lenin. A gypsum sculpture of an athlete covered with sheet copper is installed on a conventional sports pedestal made of reinforced concrete, lined with granite slabs. The figure is located in the center of the pedestal, where the athletes who take the first places stand when the awards are presented. Thus, the sculptor emphasized the repeated championship of Kuts, his high skill. The figure is presented in full height, in a running pose, at the moment of breaking the finishing tape.
