Ivan Oleksiiovych Kurilov (1840, Romny - September 19, 1916, ibid.) - merchant of the 2nd guild, local historian. Throughout his life, he collected various materials on the history of the city of Romen, based on which he published the book "Romanian Antiquity" in 1898. Historical, statistical and household notes about the city of Romnay and its inhabitants from the beginning of the city to our time. In four parts with the addition of historical and statistical description of all city churches", which became the first, truly historical study of the centuries-old chronicle of Romain. Author of the books "Historical-statistical description of the Roman Holy Spirit Cathedral" (1887), "Reminiscences of a Roman old-timer about the Ilyin Fair" (1898). In 1916, a metal cross with a memorial inscription on the front part was installed on the grave of I. Kurilov.
