Hnidash Kuzma Savych [17.11.1914, p. Salogubivka - June 19, 1944, Slonim, Grodno region. (Republic of Belarus)] - Hero of the Soviet Union (March 24, 1945). Major K. Hnidash, the commander of a reconnaissance group in the enemy rear, an officer of the intelligence department of the headquarters of the 1st Belorussian Front, distinguished himself in 1943 - 44. A group of scouts under his command conducted reconnaissance and sabotage work in the areas of the cities of Lutsk, Baranovichi, Kobra, Osypovychi, Brest, in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. 21 echelons with manpower and enemy equipment were sunk, 10 steamships and 14 barges were destroyed. The group regularly transmitted information about the enemy to the command, which contributed to the successful fording of the Desna and Dnipro rivers, the preparation and conduct of the Belarusian offensive operation. On June 19, 1944, the commander and a group of scouts were surrounded by punishers. Not wanting to surrender, he blew himself up with a grenade. For the courage and heroism shown in battles with the enemy, K. Hnidash was awarded two orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Lenin, and a medal. In Slonim, Grodno region. (Republic of Belarus) a street is named after him. The decision to erect a monument to K. Hnidash in his homeland was made in connection with the 30th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The bronze bust of the Hero stands on a high pedestal made of red polished granite (cement plinth). The inscription on it is made with metal relief superimposed letters.
